Weinheim & Surroundings

Since 2014 I live in Weinheim an der Bergstraße. Even if I miss the big mountains nearby a bit, I feel very comfortable here and regularly explore the surroundings with my camera.

Schlosspark - Zweiburgenstadt – Weinheim | That's why Weinheim is also called the "two-castle town": Wachenburg and Windeck are enthroned directly above the roofs of the city. From the Schlosspark you can enjoy a very special perspective on these buildings: in combination with the "Blauer Hut"-Tower, the city wall and the pond. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comGinkgo - Schlosspark – Weinheim | Ginkgos are the last representatives of an otherwise extinct tree species. The one in Weinheim's Schlosspark is almost 200 years old. Around November each year, its leaves turn bright yellow, adding a particularly intense color accent to the "golden autumn". - Realizzato con Pictrs.comHermannshof - Weinheim | Every year in April/May, the beautifully designed Hermannshof in Weinheim has a very special spectacle to offer. When the wisteria blossoms, it's like walking through a blue-purple tunnel. In my opinion, one of the most beautiful spring motifs in the region. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comHermannshof - Weinheim | Although the pond at Hermannshof is relatively small, it is worth a longer and more attentive observation. Between water lilies, algae, and reeds, a wide variety of animals can be seen: from frogs and fish to small turtles. Water is an attractive and life-giving element not only for us humans! - Realizzato con Pictrs.comNibelungenbrücke - Worms | Anyone who has ever driven into Worms from the Hessian side of the Rhine has undoubtedly marveled at the imposing Nibelungen Bridge. Today, the 53-meter-high Nibelungen Tower houses a hostel that can be booked for school trips or conferences. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comSt. Peter - Heppenheim | It is not surprising that the parish church of St. Peter in Heppenheim is popularly known as the "Cathedral of the Bergstrasse". With its imposing size, it clearly stands out from the surrounding town. When dusk falls, it is illuminated and put in a particularly pretty light. The skyscrapers and factories of Mannheim and Ludwigshafen can be seen on the horizon. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comExotenwald - Weinheim | The Exotic Forest is an arboretum that was established in 1872 and contains tree species from different parts of the world. Most impressive in my eyes are the sequoias from North America. Here I was able to photograph two of these giants on a foggy autumn morning. The walkers illustrate the proportions. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comSchlosspark - Weinheim | This English oak in Weinheim Schlosspark is about 300 years old and has a height of about 25 meters. What I find particularly impressive is its lower trunk circumference. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comBurg Windeck - Weinheim | From the ruins of Windeck Castle you can enjoy the most beautiful view over Weinheim. Especially at sunset, the castle complex from the year 1110 also offers a great view over the Rhine plain to the Palatinate. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comWachenburg - Weinheim | Although the Wachenburg was built in the 20th century, it looks like a medieval castle due to its architectural style. Here you can see a drone shot of the Wachenberg at sunrise. Birkenau, which lies behind it, is covered by a dense blanket of fog. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comHirschkopfturm - Weinheim | The Hirschkopfturm was an "accidental" discovery for me. I hiked on the Burgensteig path from Weinheim to Darmstadt and after only half an hour I reached this beautiful place. Since then, I've been up there regularly to watch the sunset. The tower is 15 meters high and was built in 1870. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comHildebrandsche Mühle - Weinheim | Although Hildebrand's Mill is a very impressive building, it is difficult to take a nice photo of it. This is because the terrain is inaccessible all around. Only with a drone I managed to get the right perspective for this picture. The mill's 40-meter-high silo was built in 1896 and could store up to 5000 tons of flour. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comPeterskirche - Weinheim | The Weinheim St. Peter's Church was built in Art Nouveau style and belongs to the Protestant community. It was built at the beginning of the 20th century. With the course of the river Weschnitz nearby, it forms a particularly beautiful motif of the city. - Realizzato con Pictrs.comWachenburg in the fog - Weinheim | In the morning, at 7:30 a.m., the first rays of sunlight sweep across the treetops of the Odenwald.
